The graceful curve on the front of this credenza gives it a dramatic appearance and accentuates its length. This piece was very nicely made in Canada and exhibits a number of fine details. The legs are of solid walnut and are "mothered" into the side panels. The front edges have a chamfered profile and are also of solid walnut. Slender, sculpted bow-tie shaped walnut pulls tie nicely into the diamond shaped walnut veneer inlays on the doors. The veneers on the doors are all matched as are those on the drawer fronts. This piece provides ample storage with a double wide bi-fold door compartment in the center and a single bi-fold door compartment on the left side. Both open storage areas have a single, adjustable shelf. 4 drawers on the right side provide additional storage for smaller items.
Credenzas of this size don't come around often. This one was just restored and is ready to make a beautiful addition to your living room.

Lyby Mobler Teak Modular Wall Unit
I've had this piece for well over a year and have been putting off the restoration knowing it would be an undertaking. Taken as one piece this wall unit is the largest piece I've restored yet. It took the time and effort equivalent of refinishing 2 large bedroom sets. Lyby Mobler made some of the finest furniture to come out of Denmark and this is no exception. I acquired this set from the original owners who purchased it in 1965 while living in Europe. Every piece uses solid hardwood construction with fine teak veneers. The edges and corners are all solid teak, including all the shelves. The inside of the cabinets are also nicely finished with teak. All the backs are finished so the system could be used as a free standing room divider. The glass display case, seen in the upper left has a unique feature of having an interchangeable back. It has a teak back that is finished on both sides for an installation along a wall or a second set of sliding glass doors so the case can been seen through and accessed from both sides in a free standing application.
This system is reconfigurable using a system of varying length poles that screw together. There is a set of corner shelves so the system can be configured in an "L" shape. The drop front secretary cabinet could be hung above one of the other base cabinets and the system could be shortened to 3 "bays" wide or broken into a 2 bay and a separate single bay unit. Shelves could be repositioned into different location and spacing.
Because of the flexibility of this system it could be used in an office as a desk/credenza system. It could be used in a dining room as a buffet/sideboard/china cabinet. It could be used in a living room as bookshelves and storage. This 50 year old piece of fine furniture is rare, looks like new and is ready to be a centerpiece of a room for another 50 years.
As shown below the dimension are 147" long (12'3") 72"H to tops of poles and 17" deep.
A single bay is 37 1/2" W
A double bay is 74 1/2" W
Set up in an "L" configuration the long side is about 92", the short side about 55"

Walnut Floating Top Coffee and End Table
They all did it. Finn Juhl, Jens Risom, Greta Grossman, many of the great designers had a variation of the floating top table. It is a classic design that lives on today. This set has no makers marks on it but considering the top is walnut and by their general construction, I would say they are most likely American made. They remind me the most of Grossman's designs with the crossing stretchers and detail at the top of the legs. These were originally finished in a Heywood -Wakefield-like bleached finish. That has been stripped off and the walnut refinished its natural color with the legs dyed to match. The round coffee table has the original glass cover which is in good shape, no chips or cracks.
The top of the end table has gently curving sides to set it apart from an ordinary square table.

What's next....
In response to some requests, I thought I'd do a quick post on what is coming up. This past weekend I started working on a Danish made Lyby Mobler teak modular wall unit. I bought it from the original owners who purchased it in 1965 while living in Denmark. It is a pretty big unit that can be reconfigured numerous ways. It wasn't completely set up when I bought it so I wasn't sure exactly how to configure it. I spent a few hours going through all the parts and doing a quick set up. It wasn't ideal but I took some pictures to get an idea. The corner pieces could be eliminated and it could be made to be about 10 ft long. Not sure how long it will take me to complete, there are a bunch of small pieces. After this is done I may try to do one of the 3 cool, complete bedroom sets that I have. I should have more time to work next week so hope to be productive!
Here is the Lyby set with my quick set up.
