Illum Wikkelso "Capella" Teak Lounge Chair and Loveseat

This beautiful teak lounge chair and loveseat were designed by Illum Wikkelso for N.Ellersen Furniture in the 1950's.  Wikkelso is known for designing primarily seating pieces and has some great pieces to his credit.  This set exhibits typical Danish construction that fits together with a minimum number of screws, quality joinery, good materials and elegant details.  These are in excellent original condition except for the seat webbing has just been replaced.  The fabric is a muted red and is nubby in texture.  The teak glows nicely and shows few scratches and marks.  It is a great little set for someone looking for quality vintage Danish furnishings.

Faarup FA-66 Rosewood Credenza by Ib Kofod-Larsen

When I think of Kofod-Larsen, I generally envision all the great chair designs he has to his credit.  As I've researched this piece I've come to realize that this is the piece that really brought attention to his designs.  I feel his design aesthetic equates to the Danish version of Milo Baughman.  Both designers are noteworthy for their sleek, minimalist designs combined with luxurious and exotic materials.  Both designers did work for companies that produced very high quality goods.  This combination of quality construction, rare materials and minimalist design almost guarantees their pieces will become classic and highly sought.

The model 66 was designed and built for Faarup in the 1950s.  The hidden hinges and pulls and the long linear lines keeps all the attention focused on the beautiful materials.  The brazilian rosewood used on this pieces has stunning color and grain figure.  It is finished in rosewood inside and out and on the back as well.  The trays behind the leftmost door are constructed of solid rosewood with mahogany bottoms (this piece is missing one tray).  The case is perched upon a sculpted base constructed of solid rosewood and hardwood.

This is an investment quality piece of furniture.  With the design pedigree, construction quality and rarity of materials (brazilian rosewood is no longer harvested because it is on the "red" list of endangered species), its value will likely continue to increase.  It is the furniture equivalent of the classic Mercedes SL gullwing.

Leather and Rosewood Lounge Chair by Percival Lafer

I'm having a tough time with letting this one go. It has many of the elements I really like, rosewood, leather, low loungy comfort.  Lafer's designs have this cozy, casual feel to them that is so inviting.  This chair has dark chocolate brown leather that is in excellent shape.  The rosewood is a dark red-brown that contrasts with the leather.  The leather straps add to its casual appeal.  This is a rare, super cool and comfortable vintage chair that would look great in many modernist settings.

Vintage Walnut Record Cabinet End Tables

I haven't really seen anything like these before.  These tables both sit on a rotating base.  They can be used individually or stacked.  They are walnut on all sides and the inside as well.  They'd be a great accompaniment to a low lounge chair or sofa or next to a vintage hi-fi with a turntable.  Also great as a small book or magazine rack.  Excellent vintage condition!

Preview - Kofod Larsen Rosewood Credenza - New Pics added

I don't normally do this, but this isn't a normal piece.  With today's weather I can't get good DSLR pics of this credenza.  I just finished it up and want to get some info up on the blog to start generating interest.  I often have people asking about large danish credenzas and this is a beauty.  All rosewood, including a fully finished rosewood back, 7 1/2' long credenza by IB Kofod Larsen for Faarup.  The pics are just with an iphone, so not good.  The grain figuring and coloring is spectacular.  Pieces like this do not come along often so if it is something you've been looking for I wouldn't wait.   More detailed write-up and better pics to come.

11/18/16 - I was able to take marginally better pics.  Tough to do much better with the credenza in the location it is presently in.
