Danish Selig Walnut Lounge Chair

Despite extensive searching, I can't come up with the designer of this particular chair.  With the dowel shaped arms and slat back my first guess would be Borge Jensen, but its just a guess at this point.  It has all the detail and construction quality typical of the Selig chairs of the era.  The frame is solid oiled walnut and is in great shape with a beautiful warm hue.  The chair was recently reupholstered with a light/medium blue fabric woven with light gray.  There are some fine threads of red and green in the fabric as well.  When it was reupholstered the seat deck straps were replaced and then reinforced with a padded fabric cover.  Unique to this chair are the upholstered arm rests that wrap up over the dowel arms on the frame.  Overall it is a comfy chair in beautiful condition.

Vintage Reproduction Barcelona Table

When I purchased this table I was told by the original owner they had had it quite some time.  However, because of the size of the glass and lack of marking on the frame I can only assume it is a reproduction.  The frame is in good shape with very few marks in the chrome and the weld at the "X" is clean and strong.  The original Barcelona table utilized 40" square glass.  The glass on this table is 36" square.  It is 3/4" thick with an 1/8" bevel and very slightly green tint.  There are no chips or cracks on the edges and only a few light scratches on the surface.  The glass probably weighs close to 100 lbs alone.

This a classic design that, with its simplicity, works well with many different styles.

Cerused Oak Credenza - available

The cerused oak credenza in my previous post is now available.

I'm not sure of the origin of this piece.  I purchased from the original owner who bought in new in 1976.  It had with it some other matching pieces like bookshelves and a coffee table.  It is very nicely made.  The legs and edge pieces are all solid oak.  The piece is finished on the back and interior.  There is one shelf with tarnish free felt flatware insert.  Behind each set of double doors is open storage with one adjustable shelf each.  Push latch door hardware keeps a clean, modern aesthetic.  The inside has been finished in black with a white on black ceruse on the exterior.  With the clean lines of this piece and the nicely figured oak, it is a perfect piece for a cerused finish.  The finish would go well with many current decor styles like industrial, modern farmhouse, mid-century modern
or contemporary.

Cerused Oak Credenza

This piece is already sold so I'm not going to do an extensive post.  I'm not sure of the maker of this credenza but I bought from the original owner and they purchased it 40 years ago.  It is oak, very nicely made and finished on all sides.  I finished it to match the slate colored dining table I posted a couple months ago.  It was a perfect piece for this type of finish, good grain patterns in the oak and very straight and simple lines with no hardware or other decorative elements.  It showcases the beautiful effect of the ceruse.

Vintage Milo Baughman Flat Bar Chrome Sofa

Baughman's chrome framed seating designs have long been some of my favorites and epitomize luxury modernist design.  Boldly patterned or richly textured fabrics often wrapped the sleek lines of the chrome frames.  Low and angular, they invite the user to sink into the seats without looking bulky and overstuffed.

This sofa retains its original burnt orange/rust colored velvet fabric.  The fabric is in remarkably good condition considering it is 40+ years old.  One cushion and one bottom front corner have small tears that could be repaired and well hidden with a hidden stitch.  The arms show a bit of wear and there are a few small spots here and there but little to detract from the overall look.  Even more remarkable is the condition of the cushion padding.  It is much more comfortable and supportive than sofas that I've owned that were new.  In fact, I've used this sofa as a reference for upholsterers as how cushions should feel.  This was a high end sofa when it was made and it shows you get what you pay for.

The chrome frame is in good condition with some pitting and scratches here and there but isn't noticed until you look closely.

This is a great deal for someone looking for a cool mid century sofa that could be used as is or reupholstered in your choice of fabrics.

Vintage Rybo "Kengu" Leather Lounge Chair and Footstool

The Kengu chair was designed by Elsa and Nordal Solheim and produced from 1966 -1988 by Rybo (Rykken & Co) in Norway.  It has many of the elements that I love in a good lounge chair; sling design, supple leather and cantilevered frame (bonus points for reverse cantilever).  This article details their design and construction a bit further.

Rybo was also one of the manufacturers of Ingmar Relling's famous "Siesta" chair.  Although this chair and the Siesta chair are similar in many respects, I prefer the Kengu because of the cantilevered design and the leather wrapped arms.  It is also much less common than the Siesta.

The leather on this chair is a dark chocolate brown and is supple and in excellent condition.  All buttons are intact.  The sling is dark brown canvas.  The frame is natural colored bent oak plywood and aside from a few minor scuffs is in very good condition.  It even still has the original delivery tag intact.
